Meant to Be Valentine Card

Sometimes the best things are simple things and that is certainly true for this card. Lots of white space that highlights the Balmy Blue fourish, the Lovely Lipstick heart and the Flirty Flamingo ribbon.

Simple doesn’t mean boring. This card has color, pattern, texture and a little bit of glimmer from the ribbon. And although the occasion is for Valentine’s Day, by changing up the sentiment, this card would be great for birthday, wedding, thank you and thinking of you cards. Gotta love the versatility!

Meant to Be Chocolate Box

Today’s project is this elegant little box that is the perfect size for three Ferrero Rocher chocolates. One of my favorite things about this box is the design. This box is very substantial and because of the folds used, has nice finished edge.

There is some scoring and cutting involved that can be a little tricky. I’ve included a scoring and cutting diagram in the project sheet. That, along with the video tutorial below should make this box a breeze for you to make.

You’ll notice that one of my comments on the video suggests that I had a problem with the ribbon pull. I would recommend a stronger adhesive to adhere the ribbon ends to the inside of the box. Another solution would be to tie the ribbon ends together in a knot to keep them from pulling out of the box.

Scallop Tag Topper Valentine Banner

This is the sweet Scallop Tag Topper Valentine Banner we made in this evening’s 12 Days of Valentines on Facebook Live. If you weren’t able to join us for the Live 12 Days of Valentines you may visit my Facebook Page Here to view the recording.

I just love the Balmy Blue color along with the traditional reds and pinks of Valentine’s Day. This project is probably considered an intermediate level craft but only because of the extra tools and steps required. It is actually pretty easy to put together. You just make four tags and then connect them all together!

Click on the blue button below for a full color .pdf copy of the project directions. And don’t forget to tune in tomorrow, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 7:00 pm cst for Day #2 of the 12 Days of Valentines!

Here is the project video tutorial.

Merry Christmas to All DYI Ornament

The trend right now in home decor, fashion and crafts is Farmhouse Chic.  I always make a handmade gift for the guests who attend my Christmas Fun & Fancy Classes and wanted to do something this year using the trend.  I ended up making this ornament for my guests.  The idea came from another Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator who made a larger, plaque version.  Unfortunately I cannot find the name of that Demonstrator to give her proper credit.

I used a traditional stamp set and Thinlits bundle – Merry Christmas to All.  This is a classic bundle that will stand the test of time and stay in my craft room for years to come.  I love that the Framelits include tag dies that fit perfectly around the word images.

I created the DYI ornament on this week’s Coffee & A Card Facebook Live.  I meet with everyone live each Wednesday morning at 11 am CST on my Facebook Page and we craft together.  Make sure you “Like” and “Follow” my page here so you don’t miss an episode.

Here is an edited version of the video tutorial that includes all the dimensions:

Snow is Glistening

Stampin’ Up! is offering the Snowflake Showcase Suite during the month of November or until supplies last.  We had snow this week inspiring me to play with the products in this suite.

Here are the products included in the Suite:

Aren’t they beautiful?  The card I made above was quick and easy to make and would be a good choice for mass production.  I used Whisper White Notecards – quicker to fill the smaller space.  I stamped the snowfall image from the Snow is Glistening Stamp Set onto a piece of 4-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ piece of Pool Party card stock with VersaMark Ink then heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder using the Heat Tool.  Next, I stamped the sentiment onto the card stock using Memento Ink and adhered to the front of the notecard.

Finally, I cut three snowflakes from Silver Glimmer Paper and Whisper White Shimmer Paper with the Snowflake Thinlit Dies using the Big Shot and Precision Base Plate.  The snowflake Thinlits are so finely detailed that the Precision Base Plate was very helpful to obtain clean cuts, especially with the thicker Silver Glimmer Paper.  I would also recommend the Big Shot Die Brush to remove paper from intricate dies like these.  Once cut, I adhered the snowflake dies to the card front using a few drops of Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Here is a photo of the inside of the card.  I always like to stamp a little image along with the inside sentiment.

Here is a list of the products I used to make the notecard.  Click on any of the images for more information and to purchase.  But hurry, the products in the Snowflake Showcase Suite are only available for a limited time and will be gone on November 30, 2018.

Signs of Santa Treat Bag

It is so much fun to surprise people with a little treat.  On Wednesday I made up some Halloween treat bags for four special trick-or-treaters in my life.

Aren’t they the cutest Storm Trooper, Elsa, Pink Power Ranger and Red Power Ranger you ever did see?  Here are the treat bags I put together for them using the Toil & Trouble Suite from Stampin’ Up!

These were so fun and easy to make that I wanted to share a tutorial creating a Christmas version.  I started with the Gusseted Cellophane Bags from Stampin’ Up! and embellished with products from the Santa’s Workshop Suite.

Project Dimensions

  • Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper = 2-7/8″ x 9″ scored at 1″, 3″ and 7-1/4″ on the 9″ side
  • Whisper White Card Stock = 2-1/2″ x 4″
  • Poppy Parade Card Stock = 3″ x 2″
  • Garden Green Card Stock = 3″ x 2″

Labels to Love Tags

During my Facebook Live this week I spotlighted the Labels to Love Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up!

How versatile is this stamp set?!  It works all year long and coordinates with the Everyday Label Punch.  I love punches!  There’s no quicker way to cut out stamped images and punches are a quick and easy way to add interest and depth to your projects.

Here are a few of the tags I made using the stamp set and punch.

Once I got started making these tags I couldn’t stop.  I used the “give thanks” tag and created a napkin rings for our Thanksgiving table.  Then I made a Christmas tag full of whimsy using the Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Of course using the Labels to Love stamp set to create tags is a given but the stamps make beautiful cards as well.

Here is the video from my Facebook Live where I demonstrate how I made the tags.  Below that is a list of all the products that were used to make these tags.  If I can answer any questions you have please feel free to email me at Leslie@theplaidpoodle.com

Cauldron Bubble Halloween Lanterns

I participated in a vendor fair this fall and one of the items at my booth were these cute Halloween Lanterns.

Aren’t they sweet?  I placed a small, cellophane bag with chocolate kisses inside the lanterns for gifting along with a flameless tealight candle.  When you remove the candy and insert the flameless candle the lanterns really glow!  I show the lanterns in action at the end of my video tutorial below.

This project is probably considered intermediate skill required but only because of the tools used and the folds required.  It really is a pretty simple and straight forward project to complete.  I’ve included the card stock dimensions along with a list of the products used to create these lanterns below.

Project Recipe

  • Basic Black card stock = 8-1/2″ x 6″ scored on the 8-1/2″ side at 2″, 4″, 6″ and 8″.  Score on the 6″ side at 1/4″, 7/8″, 1-1/2″ and 4-1/4″
  • Basic Black card stock = 6-1/2″ x 1/4″ (lantern handle)
  • Vellum = four pieces 2-1/2″ x 1-3/4″ each
  • Pumpkin Pie card stock = 7-1/2″ x 3-1/2″
  • Toil & Trouble Designer Series Paper (witches hat and cat die-cut)
  • Whisper White card stock = scrap

Stampin’ Up! Country Lane Suite

The cards I’m sharing with you today were made using products from the Country Lane Suite by Stampin’ Up!  I’m a city girl but these cards create the feel of country comfort wherever you live!  I created these cards by copying the samples on page 42 of the 2018 Holiday Catalog.

The sweet enamel pitcher, the milk can and the fall foliage photopolymer stamps in this set takes us back to a simpler time.  The colors used, like Blackberry Bliss, Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry, are perfect for the Fall Season that we are in right now.  The country imagery on the Country Lane Designer Series Paper is right on-trend.

In addition to the products from the Country Lane Suite, I stamped the flower images for this sweet 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ note card with a stamp from the Jar of Love stamp set and cut them out with the coordinating Everyday Jars Framelits.  The leaves were punched from a scrap of Old Olive with the Leaf Punch.  One of my favorite elements in this little note card is the 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim.  It really ties the whole card together – lol!

This next card is the type of card I send out most.  The sentiment is appropriate to send to anyone for any occasion.  The milk can is just too cute and the texture from the Tin Tile Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder is beautiful!

The Gray Granite card base on this next card is not something I would have chosen myself but it totally works.  That’s what is so great about the Stampin’ Up! catalogs.  The catalogs are full of samples and ideas to push us out of our creative boxes and try something new.  I would be happy to send a catalog out to you.  Click on the Catalog link in the menu above for details.

My last card uses the Braided Linen Trim again.  I used a paper piercer to unravel the ends of the trim.  I used a 3/4″ Circle Punch to notch out the corners of the Crumb Cake rectangle that the sentiment is stamped on.

Spooky Sweets Gift Tag

In addition to the awesome, one-of-a-kind products found inside the pages of a Stampin’ Up! catalog, there are great project ideas.  Crafters can copy the samples exactly as is or use them as a jumping off point to get the creative juices flowing.    I recently copied this “No Tricks just Treats” gift tag shown on page 51 of the 2018 Holiday Catalog.

Of course I could not leave well enough alone and added a little something extra in the form of a spooky little bat.  Here is my version of the tag:

The tag was so much fun to make.  I mixed up a potion of rubbing alcohol with a few drops of Gorgeous Grape Ink Refill in a Stampin’ Spritzer.  I sprayed the mist over a spider web stencil made with the web die from the Cauldron Framelits to create the soft background for the tag.

I show how to create the Gorgeous Grape mist, the stencil and a tip for making the perfect tag top every time in my video tutorial below.

My tag is made with a  2-1/4″ wide x 3-1/2″ tall piece of Thick Whisper White card stock.  I used the Spooky Sweets stamp set for the sentiment and stars on the tag.  Here is the complete list of products I used to complete the project:
